SI Joint Pain
What is SI joint pain?
Your sacroiliac joints (we call them the "SI" joints) are the places where your hips meet your spine. These joints don't have a lot of flexibility, but they do move slightly as you move your body. And if SI joints become damaged or diseased, it can be painful.
What is the sacroiliac joint?
The sacrum attaches to the large pelvic bones known as the ilia. The joints that connect the sacrum to the ilia are called the SI joints.
What is SI Joint Degeneration?
SI joint degeneration can be caused by degenerative disease, trauma, pregnancy/childbirth, prior lumbar fusion and other causes.
What are symptoms of SI Joint Dysfunction?
SI joint symptoms may present as pain, or feelings of numbness, weakness or tingling in the lower back, buttock, and/or legs.
What are my options?
There are many non-operative treatments available for patients with SI joint dysfunction. We believe in exploring all non-operative treatment options before surgery. Injections, physical therapy, and rhizotomies (burning the nerves around the joint) are a few of the options available. Dr. Molina will discuss all the options available to you during your appt.
